Sophisticated Bun Series – Horizontal Figure 8 Bun With Tendrils

Last week I started How to Protective Style with Sophistication – The Sophisticated Bun Series. The reason I started this was two fold:

  • To bring out a little of my own creativity
  • To help you with yours
It’s winter time and protective styling is a natural girl’s best friend. I’ve had a bit of fun creating the next style in the series.

Items Used:

  • Hair pins
  • Bobby pins
  • Flexi Rods
  • Banana Clip
  • Decorative hair stick
  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Aussie Moist Conditioner

The Technique:
  1. Wash hair and set in 6 twists rolled on flexi rods to stretch it.
  2. Release the twists and leaving forward, gather all but the hair you want to leave out for the tendrils to the top of the head.
  3. Use Aloe Gel to smooth edges (except the tendrils)
  4. Define the tendrils with Aussie Moist conditioner.
  5. Secure hair in a banana clip horizontally on top of your head.
  6. Split hair in two
  7. Pin hair by section with bobby pins to create a figure 8 bun. This method makes a bigger bun on medium length hair.

Do you protective style using buns? What’s your favorite technique for bunning your hair?

  1. New follower here. I found you on facebook’s Network Your Blog. When I saw your blog was about beauty, in particular hair, I had to stop by and follow. You see I have a blog too and the purpose of my blog is to spread the word about a product I love (hair jewelry). I would appreciate if you would stop by. Here’s my url If you would like more information on my hair jewelry, please click on my “Fine Hair Jewelry” button and you will go to my website where I have a couple of short but informative sizing and styling videos. I would be so thrilled if you would pass the word along to your followers too.

    1. Hi Denise- Thanks for stopping by. My blog is about hair and skin care – a delicate balance of both 🙂 I’ll definitely check out your blog and spread the word.

    1. Thanks Rece. I’m trying to make these whole protective styling thing just a bit more interesting 🙂 I get bored easily with hairstyles!
