The Intricacies of The Banana Clip

Who doesn’t love the banana clip? Don’t answer that. I may have to fight you 🙂

I tell you. It’s one of the best inventions created for women! Who would have thought that this little plastic tool would be used to create so many lush hairstyles? It looks so simple right? Yet, it can work magic. I remember using a banana clip to secure my hair way back when I was in high school but never did I experiment with styling my hair in it. All I did was pull it back and let the hair hang straight out. Fast forward to the present and I can do some thangs with a banana clip!

People often comment on how nicely my updos are. They tell  me they look very intricate. Aha! If they only knew! The banana clip is my go-to accessory for when I want a quick updo that looks complicated but is really very simple. As a matter of fact, other than the banana clip, all I use are bobby pins. One quick word though…I do NOT care for those new fangled oval shaped banana clips. No. I’m old school. The ones from back in the day (pictured above) are much  more durable. I have fine hair but a lot of them so any banana clip I use must be able to bite into my hair (not really ) and secure them all day. I once purchased one of those newer designed oval shaped banana clips (hard plastic) and it snapped right apart. Isn’t it always the case? Things that are manufactured over again (cars, houses and banana clips!) are never of the same caliber. Everything gets made cheaper. What a waste. But I digress.

Banana Clip Hairstyles

Some of these styles you may have seen me share before but may not know how I created them (time to share my secret 🙂 Some of these styles were a part of the Sophisticated Bun Series and I did share that I used a banana clip to create them but figured I’d include them as a refresher.

Giiiiirl you are a traveler. You NEED a banana clip! Just think about all those days when you want to just get up and go. You can just put your hair up, have it looking stylish and poof be gone!

🙂 I think you’ll like it. They are cheap too. You can get them from beauty supply stores for like $1

I use to always wear a banana clip years ago. I have seen some very lovely styles with a banana clip, but my hair is still a little short. I love your updo’s! I will keep this in the back of my head to try when I get some more length.
