CJ in the ER

Life Update | Why I Haven’t Been Around

CJ in the ER
in the ER waiting to be admitted

I haven’t shared a post, written an article or recorded a video for my YouTube channel in over a month.

People who subscribe to the Fine Natural Hair and Faith newsletter know why. For those of you who don’t (why not? lol), I’m sharing this update.

So, I really don’t know where to begin. I don’t have an eloquent way to say it all and I sure don’t know how to lay it out in a manner that Google wants to index it all on the first page (Besides, not many searching the web would much care).

But, for my faithful subscribers, I didn’t want to leave you hanging so here goes…

After G-Tube Surgery
After G-Tube Surgery

My son, CJ is a special needs child who has many health challenges (especially the last 2 years). We were set to get a G-tube placed into his belly so he could receive adequate nutrition and hydration to fight against nasty kidney stones that were forming faster than we could remove them.

All of those plans were accelerated when about three weeks ago, CJ developed a very high fever (nearly 106). I rushed him to the ER and he was admitted after being diagnosed with pneumonia and a UTI.

Seizure activity returned.

That was on a Friday. He already had surgery scheduled for the following Monday to remove a stent from his ureter that was placed after a large infection stone was removed from his kidney a month prior.

After being on antibiotics for a few days, the doctors cleared him for the surgery and went in to removeΒ the stent.

While in the hospital, CJ was fast tracked to received his G-tube.

Somewhere between stent removal and G-tube placement, CJ contracted a fungus in his blood.

Pediatrics had to consult with Infectious Diseases. The doctor in charge put him on an anti-fungal drug, Micafungin, nd took him off the antibiotic which could potentially encourage the growth of more yeast.

Long story short, CJ was having high fevers most days. Yet, after just 1 dose of the anti-fungal drug, (and much prayer and confession based on the Word of God), he began to return negative blood cultures. It was an intervention from the Lord and even the doctors couldn’t explain why his cultures returned to negative so quickly.

14 days later, CJ was released from the hospital.

There’s so much more to share. I will record a video detailing our stay and all the experiences that we went through. God was so good to us even in the midst of it all.

Now, we are just getting used to this new feeding tube system. I actually had to go on YouTube to learn some things because while the hospital provided basic training, there were just some things I didn’t recall.

We have a visiting nurse that will come weekly but in the meantime, I’m it.

Stay tuned for future updates and thank you so much to everyone who prayed for us. I plan to return to blogging and vlogging in a week or two.

  1. Praise God!! God is just so awesome!! His word is the truth and does not return void! As you know Michelle I am so happy to hear about this wonderful miracle. God had you and your son in the palm of his hands and he will continue to hold you up during those times that may feel weary. Thanks for sharing and reminding us With God All Things Are Possible! You and your son will continue to be in my prayers.
    Be blessed.

  2. May the Lord bless and keep you and your family. May he give you super natural strength beyond all understanding and give your dear, precious son a speedily supernatural recovery, in Jesus’s name.

  3. God is so good! I am so happy to hear that CJ is doing so much better. Like all of your fans, we have missed you but we are so grateful for the updates along the way. After hearing so much about antibiotics, I learned something new from your post. It is interesting that antibiotics can lead to an increase of yeast. This could explain why so many blogs and videos discuss candida. As always, you enlighten, inspire and empower! God bless you and the family! Enjoy your baby! I know you are so glad to have him home:) No matter how old they get…..they are always our babies! CJ is surrounded by a troop of guardian angels!

    1. Yes. Antibiotics definitely have their place. They aren’t bad. We just need to be careful not to use them too much or the body can also get resistant. He took them and they did what they were supposed to do…and fast. I’m just happy that he is home. You are right. They never get too old!

Thank you for your prayers and words of encouragement πŸ™‚

  4. May God continue to strengthen you and your family. God has the last say, I will continue to lift you and the family in prayer.

  5. Wow, Michelle. Thank God for your positive attitude! It’s a challenge to me. Stay strong. Thank God for the fast turnaround in CJ’s health. Indeed prayer works, the Word works, too.

    1. Hi Ihuchi. The devil would like nothing more than for us to get down in the dumps and question God BUT like you said, prayer and the Word work. We just have to work it πŸ™‚ God bless you and thank you for the kind words

    1. Ni Nikki. Welcome! and thank you for your prayers. I should be updating again soon. We are finally acclimating to all the changes (feeding tube etc).
I have so many posts in “draft” I just need to carve out time to update
