Life as a special needs mom keeps me busy and on my toes. I’m constantly running from appointment to appointment between work and sleep time. Because of this, I don’t get much time to unwind.
Don’t get me wrong. I trust God to keep me sane but even He encourages people to rest and relax. Why else would He Himself have rested on the 7th day?
If I’m honest though, I don’t take much time out for myself. I rarely even spend time taking relaxing baths. It’s in and out the shower quick as possible on most days. Yet, I realize that I can’t keep this kind of behavior up. I MUST make time for myself and you should do the same.
Ideas for Taking Time For Yourself
Depending on where you live and your budget, you can try some of the ideas I’m about to share to take time out for yourself.
– To start, I’ve made it a practice of getting a professional facial done once a month. I started doing that after my daughter gifted me with a Groupon. The spa isn’t very far from my home and a facial is only $40.
– Grab a “Do Not Disturb” sign and put it on your bedroom door for an hour or so while you enjoy one of your favorite fresh brewed teas while curled up reading a few chapters of a good book or listening to relaxing sounds streamed through noise canceling earphones.
– Every weekend (almost), in addition to washing my hair, I take a couple hours out to exfoliate my body from head to toe and give my feet the royal treatment.
Recently, I was sent Vitabath’s Orchid Intrigue Contemporary Everyday Set to review. The products are not all natural but at least there are no parabens and no sulfates in them to dry the skin out. The set included a pretty lavender colored loofah, shower gelée and a body lotion.
Now, in the interest of disclosure I didn’t know what the heck gelée was. I thought it was a french word for gel! I expected the consistency of a regular shower gel but this was different. The consistency was so luxurious. My skin was left feeling very soft and smooth. I applied the gelée with my exfoliating bath gloves and from head to toe….
OK. You get the picture 🙂 When I finished my shower ritual, I applied the body lotion from the set. Initially, I wasn’t all that impressed at receiving a bottle of lotion. I’m not a huge fan of lotion in general. It’s too thin in my opinion. My skin is naturally dry so I typically need a thicker moisturizer/sealant.
Pleasantly surprised yet again.
An hour after hopping out of the shower and applying the lotion, I decided to do the “scratch test.” That’s what I call it when I scratch my skin to see if it is dry (revealed by turning white). Nothing. The Vitabath lotion absorbed into my skin and kept it moisturized.
I was also sent packets of a few of Vitabath’s other body washes. I didn’t want to keep all the goodness to myself. My CJ needed a bath and I decided to let him bathe in the Green Apple & White Lilly body wash. While I like this product as a shower gel, the bubbles didn’t last for a bubble bath. *Shrugs*.
Vitabath created one of the first liquid shower gels back in the 1950s. In 2011, they revitalized the brand by introducing a new moisturizing, sulfate and paraben free body wash line in a wide variety of fresh, playful fragrances like Lime Citron Basil, Fresh Citrus Twist, Fruit Fanatic and Cupcake Couture.
