Why Simple Hair Routines?

Before we get into my actual hair regimen and products used, let me give you a brief overview of why for the year of 2021 I am following simple hair routines.

For starters, not only has 2020 basically brought an almost complete abruption to life as we know it; 2021 is continuing the madness.

The coronavirus pandemic has forced us to reevaluate our lives. One aspect of my life that needed to be reevaluated was my hair care.

I used to spend so much time doing my hair and while I love taking care of what God’s blessed me with, I don’t want to obsess over it. I also don’t want to spend all my time (at home) just doing hair.

More importantly, it’s high time I use up all these hair products that are cluttering up my home!

Can you relate to that?

Benefits of a Simplified Hair Routine

So, aside from wanting to just lead a more simple life and use up a bunch of hair products, there’s actually benefits to following a simple hair care routine. These include:

  • Finally honing in on the products that your hair truly loves
  • Saving money since you are using the same hair products for a full month
  • Less hair manipulation since you are keeping with the same hairstyle throughout the month

Adding to it, My Faith

As a Christian, I believe that having God be a part of every aspect of your life is His will. He created us and that includes your hair so why wouldn’t a believer want to keep God involved in that as well? This is especially the case if you are having challenges with your hair.

Wouldn’t the Creator know exactly what needs to be done to your hair to get it on the path to health? It just seems like a no brainer to me.

So, that’s why I’m also focusing on a scripture for the month that simply aligns my faith with my hair care.

Scripture for April

For the month I’m focusing on this verse of scripture from 1 Corinthians 11:15 and it says, “But, if a woman have long hair it is a glory to her for her hair is given to her for a covering.”

This verse of scripture says a lot about a woman’s hair. I also don’t think God puts meaningless words in the Bible. It’s something to pay heed too. Anyway, let’s move on.

My Hair Plans

Now that you know my “why” for this way of hair care, let’s look at my what – products and routine.

The Hair Routine and Products Used

My hair routine is weekly for the month of April and takes place on Saturdays:

  • Pre-poo with coconut oil (Currently using up Shea Moisture’s Extra Virgin Coconut Oil)
  • Wash with TGIN’s Moisture Rich Sulfate Free Shampoo
  • Deep Condition with TGIN’s Miracle RepaiRx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask
  • Blow out hair using my RevAir Hair Dryer and then styling with: L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Sleek It Iron Straight Heatspray +Kreyol Essence Pomad
  • Tame my edges with Arcani Coil Care Enthroned Edges Edge Tamer

Nightly I am also applying Jamaican Black Castor Oil (Extra Dark) to my ends. It’s an experiment really. I want to see how my hair responds to having JBCO applied every day for 30 days. I’ll be posting a video update in a month.

During the week I won’t be doing much else other than applying the JBCO to my ends. I don’t want my blown out hair to revert. Also, because I’m applying the JBCO to my ends, they won’t dry out.

Yes, I know that oils do not moisturize. However, the lubrication I get from the oil prevents my ends from feeling drying and ultimately breaking off. Of course, like I said, “This is an experiment.”

April’s Hairstyle

Lastly, my hair style for the month is 2 cornrows. I bet you figured that out from the picture above LOL.

I’ve done this simple hair style many times over my lifetime. I love it because you can retain a lot of length since it’s low manipulation once completed. All you have to do is tie down at night and redo it every 3-4 days (or not at all if you’re good about actually tying it down every night).
