This article was written in 2021 sharing a personal family experience that affected my fall hair regimen. If you find yourself in a difficult place in life where your hair has to take a back seat, this article will help you get back on track.
At the start of fall, I had a plan for my hair. Just as with every other month, I followed a monthly simplified hair regimen based in low manipulation. Yet, the month of October and November did not pan out.
Canceled Hair Care
I’ll get right to the point. My son got very sick. He was in the hospital for 32 days. During that time, I could care less about my hair. All I cared about was what was happening in his body. Too much to explain here but I’ll record our story and post it on YouTube.
What’s interesting is while I was not focused so much on my hair in the hospital, I did twist (and later braided) it up. I had my husband bring my S-Secrets growth oil so I could at least massage my scalp.
I’ve definitely noticed that my hair grew a bit. The reason I know is it was all about low manipulation. I simply left my hair alone.
That’s the one benefit of not being able to give your hair the attention you normally give it. You manipulate it much less.
I did however kick off October for the first week and I wanted to share that with you. We went into the hospital on 10/7 so for that first week, I did do some things.

Scripture for October
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. – John 15:4
This scripture make it clear that if we live our life in the Lord, we will bear fruit. There’s no boundaries as to what kind of fruit. It just says fruit. That could be the fruit of abundance in any area of life. As it relates to hair, I’m trusting God to bear the fruit of healthy hair.
Fall Hair Regimen
October was the first true month of fall (forget what the calendar says). The temperatures were dropping and it was time to get cozy and protective of your crown.
So, while fall is just about done and we are entering winter, I don’t think I have to change much about my hair care going forward.
I’ll be washing my hair weekly and doing a full strength henna treatment at the end of each month.
This is needed to give my hair the support it needs since over time it was somewhat neglected.
Here’s the quick run down:
- Deep condition (plus henna on the last Saturday or Sunday of the month)
- Final rinse with my Hibiscus/Nettle/Moringa tea spray
- Apply oil to my scalp and massage in
- Stretch my hair with Waveformers or Curlformers.
- Once hair is stretched, twist hair in medium size twists
- Throughout the week, massage scalp 2-3 times and tie down at night
- Style the twists in a bun or french roll
I started off with twists and while I only got to style my hair a few days throughout the month, here’s how it started…

Hair Products and Tracker
To map out and record my hair care plans for the month, I do so on a monthly hair plan worksheet. I use the faith based version but there’s also a version without a place to note a scripture.
These work sheets will help you to be more productive with your hair care.
If you’re interested in starting your own simplified hair care plan, here are links to both the faith based and original simplified hair routine trackers:
If you want to use one or more of the hair products that planned on using, there are links to each below. However, you can definitely use whatever hair products you like. Just be consistent.

Winter Hair Care
When transitioning from fall to winter hair care, you’ll find that you may not need to change your routines so much. What should change is:
- Your hair products
- Your hairstyles
We are not less than 2 months remaining to 2021. This was a difficult year.
While I missed out on sharing (and actually doing) my fall hair regimen in real time, you can still benefit from the routines.
For the remainder of the year, I’ll not share anything about my regimen because it’s not going to change. The hair routines mentioned above are it. The only change is the hair style.
When you are going through trials, it’s better to do less with your hair.
It takes quite a bit of time to twist my hair in small sections. That’s time I really don’t have. Therefore, I’ll just be putting my hair in large braids. No real style but it will help keep my hair moisturized throughout the colder months.
