Sometimes, when styling your hair the least effort yields the best results
So, I hadn’t really planned to write up a big ‘ole post on this bossy little hairstyle that “looks like” a wash and go but so many people loved the results, how could I not share the deets? J So, how did I do it? Keep reading mamacita…
For starters, my hair was in an old twist out that I bunned over night just to stretch it and prevent it from tangling while I slept. I had actually planned on wearing my new Puff Cuff to just pull my hair up so I wouldn’t have to style it.
But then I thought to myself, “Self (LOL!), it’s beautiful outside and you know you want to wear your hair out.” The only thing is I haven’t been protective styling that much lately and really didn’t want to have my hair rubbing up on my clothes yet another day (ahhh the curse of hair that’s finally growing…like I’m really complaining!) sooo that’s when I thought, why don’t I employ my frenemy, Shrinkage.
Shrinkage is achieved with one thing and one thing only. WATER! That’s right ladies and gents. If you have natural hair, then you know that if you wet it, it will shrink. So, water to the rescue along with a new product that I really took a chance on using.
This “faux” wash and go was achieved with very little effort. As expressed earlier, it’s not really a wash and go. I wanted to get the look of a wash ‘n go without all the work (ie washing my hair!). So here’s how I did it:
– Wet hair using a spray bottle filled with Water and Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave in Conditioner
– Then, here’s where I used a product for the first time: Dug through my samples and decided on Taliah Waajid’s Curly Curl Cream. I scrunched this cream into my hair and finger formed my curls. What a shock. This cream has virtually no smell and it’s very light weight. I honestly didn’t know if it would work since my hair is much straighter in the front and was visibly stretched from my over night bun….but the hair began to curl right up. #Winning !
– Smoothed some Eco Styler Gel on my edge and bam I was done!
That’s it. A faux (or rather express) wash and go in about 7 minutes flat. I’m floored I tell you. I’m adding this Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream to my summer rotation for sure. Well, wait. First, I’d like to try it on a real wash ‘n go – Like the kind where you actually wash your hair :- ) if I get a consistent results, it’s on like popcorn!
Stay tuned for my next post where I will share the twist out results I got using the Camille Rose Naturals Almond Jai Twisting Butter that I procured at the Taliah Waajid World Natural Hair Show/Expo in Atlanta.
