Letting God Fight Your Battles
Self Defense*: an act or instance of defending or protecting one’s own interests, property, ideas, etc., as by argument or strategy.
When you hear the term “self-defense” what comes to mind is usually a picture of someone either maiming or killing an attacker. It’s also a common strategy used by lawyers when trying to get guilty men (and women) out of a legal bind.
Whatever your definition of self-defense, if I were a gambler I’d bet the furthest thing from your mind is how your own behavior when facing a personal trial, could be considered self defense.
Don’t get me wrong. Self defense isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The fight or flight responses is innate but what if I told you that you don’t always have to come to your own defense?
Redeemed from The Evils of This World
We live in a world where every evil imaginable is possible. That’s because we live in a sin sick fallen world subject to crime, hatred, disease and more. It’s very easy to jump to “defend” yourself when attacked by outside forces. It’s not just self defense. It’s self preservation.
God sent Jesus so we wouldn’t have to worry about preserving ourselves or fighting our own battles. When Jesus died on the cross, He put a stop to everything and everyone that could cause you lasting harm. He stepped in as your substitute so that you wouldn’t have to endure the evil that this world has to offer. His ascension on the third day has solidified our security in Him.
This doesn’t mean you won’t ever be attacked. On the contrary. If you are a Christian, you can count on it. What it does mean, however is you can go straight to the throne of God’s Grace to obtain His help in a time of need. God can and WILLÂ fight His children’s battles.
Stand on His Word and Let God Fight!
The next time you are faced with a seemingly insurmountable problem, don’t make the automatic choice of attempting to fight your own battles. Go to the Word of God, the Bible and see what He has to say about the situation. And, as sure as the promises are found in the Word, you can rest assure He will uphold them. For God is not a man that He should lie. If He said it, He’ll bring it to pass.
Are people lying on you or scheming behind your back? Let God fight the battle.
“For the battle is not yours, It’s the Lord’s.” 2 Chronicles 20:15
Are you sick and the doctor’s can do nothing for you? Let God fight the battle.
43Â And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44Â Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45Â And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46Â And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
47Â And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
48Â And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
Luke 8:43-48
Are you swimming in a sea of debt or can’t make ends meet? Let God fight the battle.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
I hope this article has helped you. I may not be the most eloquent of writers but this I know: Whatever you are going through in life, God has an answer. Sometimes He will use natural means (ex: a doctor with wisdom). It’s not for us to figure it out. Just trust God and let Him fight your battles.
If you don’t know Jesus in the pardoning of your sins, may I introduce Him to you today? This way you can be sure that you have the Creator of the Universe always ready to fight on your behalf! Plus, it’s pretty cool to be able to chat with Him whenever you want 🙂
Salvation Prayer: Dear God in Heaven, I come to you acknowledging that I am a sinner in need of a Savior. My very nature is that of a sinner. Sometimes I know to do right and still do wrong. I ask you to come into my life. I accept that Jesus Christ, your Son came into the world to save me. He gave His life at Calvary. He was crucified, died, was buried and I believe He rose again on the 3rd day. I pray in Jesus Name that you would come into my heart, be my Heavenly Father and help me to live for you. Amen.
