I recently wrote an article on After Christmas Self Care for Christians. It provides tips for Christian women to recenter their soul with God’s grace. You’ll find it linked at the bottom of this article
Today I wanted to cover ways to give your hair some after Christmas self care combining the believer’s faith.
Christmas is such a busy time. It’s very easy to neglect things like hair care. Sure, you may wash it and throw it up but to keep your natural hair thriving, add a few of these post holiday self care tasks that you can make into routines each year.
Post-Holiday Hair Self Care

After the festivities, give your hair a gentle detox with a DIY scalp scrub or a clarifying treatment. This will help cleanse your scalp from any product buildup, sweat, or oils accumulated during the busy holiday season.
This is a great way to do some holiday self-care for your hair.

Hair Care Prayer Rituals
Combine your hair care routines with prayer. This is what I like to call your secret weapon to reach hair goals success.
As you massage your scalp or apply treatments, pray over your hair health and thank God for your natural beauty. Ask Him for guidance on how to reach your hair goals and how to better care for your hair.
It’s during these down times of sitting quietly while doing your hair and speaking to your Creator, that you can hear from Him more clearly. Your spirit is still and your sense of “hearing” is more keen.
Do a Protective Style Reset

Take time to refresh or redo your protective style with a prayerful mindset.
While styling, meditate on scriptures about self-love and care, such as 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 which says:
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (NIV)
Remind yourself that your body, including your hair, is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Have a Hair Spa Day on the Sabbath
Dedicate a day to pampering your natural hair with deep conditioning treatments, hot oil massages, or steam therapy. Use this time as an act of self-love and self-care.
As you are detangling your hair, turn it into a mindfulness practice by praying as you work through each section of your hair. Use the time to thank God for the strength and beauty of your hair while asking for His peace and guidance in other areas of your life.
You can set the mood to create a spa-like environment to pamper your hair and your spirit.
It’s a time to rest, unwind, and reflect on how taking care of your hair is also a way of honoring your body as God’s creation.
Create a Hair Care Gratitude Journal

Start a small journal where you can document things you are grateful for in your hair journey, whether it’s hair growth, health, or new techniques you’ve learned.
Combine this practice with thanking God for the uniqueness of your natural hair.
Some things you could write about in your hair care gratitude journal are:
- Appreciation for healthy hair growth
- Gratitude for products that nourish your hair
- Being thankfulness for learning new hair care techniques
- Celebrating small wins like reduced shedding or breakage
- Feeling blessed for days when your hair cooperates
- Gratefulness for being able to devote the time needed for your self-care
- Joy in discovering new hairstyles that suit you
- Appreciation for supportive hair care communities
- Thankfulness for hair tools that simplify your routine
- The versatility and uniqueness of your hair
- Overcoming hair obstacles
- Having the patience you need for your hair care journey.
Create a Faith-Based Natural Hair Vision Board

If you’re planning for hair goals in the new year, why not make a vision board for your natural hair as a form of after Christmas self care?
There’s so much you can include on a vision board for your hair. Let’s not over-think it though.
Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- Scripture verses and affirmations that enforce your identity in Christ.
- Images of hairstyles you want to do when your hair gets to a certain length
- Hair health goals you want to achieve
- Bullet points of hair routines you need to focus on to reach your goals
- Inspirational quotes
- Pictures of yourself at various stages of your hair journey to visually track progress
Start a Hair Focused Prayer Circle
Trust that if you are concerned about getting in some after Christmas self care, the chances are high that other women you know are as well.
So, if you have a close-knit group of friends or family who share your faith beliefs and are also on a hair care journey, start a small prayer circle where you pray over each other’s hair care goals.
This can help build and create a lasting bonding experience.
Create a Faith and Hair Care Devotional
Use the post-Christmas time to begin or revisit a devotional that connects your hair care routine with your faith.
For example, you could create or use devotionals that reflect on God’s beauty, self-care, or embracing your natural hair as part of His creation.
This is similar to the hair care gratitude journal mentioned above.

Create After Christmas Scripture and Hair Care Checklists
Create a checklist for both your hair care and spiritual growth.
For example, you could map out a month’s worth of deep conditioning or other hair care treatments, scalp massages, and protective styles.
Create this list alongside a daily Bible reading plan to focus on for the last 2-3 weeks of the year. This is a great way to prepare for the upcoming year.
There you have it – a full arsenal of ideas for after Christmas self-care for your hair and spirit.
