After Christmas Self-Care: Recenter Your Soul with God’s Grace
Last updated on October 16th, 2024 at 02:44 pm
In the world, Christmas is a time when families and friends come together to share a meal and see whose gift will out-give the next. OK not everyone in the world is like this.

Some people give the least, which will affect their pockets, and not care. Others give because they really enjoy doing so. And, still, some give because they like to receive.
Regardless of why people celebrate Christmas, the fact remains the same for all of us. The festivities (shopping, cooking etc) can lead to burnout.
You can’t enjoy the season to its fullest if you run yourself ragged. So, in this article, I’m sharing with you some of the many ways you can give yourself a bit of after Christmas self care. Depending on where you live and how the seasons deliver, this can also be considered a season of Fall self care.
Since I’m a Christian and part of my mission here at Fine Natural Hair and Faith is to inspire a life of living by faith, the holiday self care tips shared will be from that position.
Do More of What Christians Should Normally Do
For some serious after Christmas self care, you don’t have to go all gung-ho searching for “new ways” of relaxing and focusing on yourself.
Simply, spend more time doing the things you would normally do as a believer but add a little something extra special to it.
Or, perhaps I should say, “Spend more time doing the things you should normally do” because sometimes we allow other things to steal our focus, causing us to neglect to do these things regularly.
For the self care you need after the Christmas season, place a heavy focus on things like prayer, reading & studying the scriptures, and praising & worshiping God.
Here are 5 ways to do these things that will help restore you and keep you refreshed in the Lord:
Scripture Journaling
Start a post-Christmas journaling practice where you reflect on scriptures about rest, renewal, and gratitude.
Choose verses that resonate with you, such as Matthew 11:28 which says “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
You can even journal about how God has kept you sane and blessed over the holidays.
Then, meditate on how God is inviting you into spiritual (and physical) rest with Him.
Do Some Spiritual Goal-Setting for the New Year
Use the time after Christmas to reflect on the previous year. Some things to consider:
- Have you spent regular time with the Lord in prayer?
- Did you attend church regularly?
- Did you spend time in the Word outside of church?
- What was your giving like?
Based on your reflections and answers to these questions, spend some time setting faith-based goals for the upcoming year.
Start a Regular Gratitude Prayer Walk

To get in some after Christmas self care, Christians can take a quiet walk 1 or 2 days a week (or make it a self care weekend). Use it as prayer time to ask God to restore you after such a busy Christmas season. Thank God for His blessings throughout the past year.
Focus on a word like “peace” or “joy” as you walk and pray. You can also ask God for a word you’d like to focus on for the upcoming year.
Check out Christian Living Logs where you can record your word and plan/track other activities that fuel a faith-based life.
Take Regular Praise and Worship Breaks

Dedicate time each day after Christmas to simply worship and praise God for His goodness. Doing so is one way we honor Christ as believers
Play your favorite worship music, sing, and focus on gratitude for all that God has done in your life over the past year.
One of my favorite worship songs is Never Lost by Elevation Worship.
Create a Spiritual Vision Board
Instead of a traditional vision board, take a full holiday selfcare day and create one that reflects your spiritual goals and aspirations for the coming year.
Add Bible verses, inspirational quotes, and images that reflect how you want to grow spiritually and deepen your walk with the Lord in the coming days.
