Hair growth and length retention.
That’s the ultimate goal of following a healthy hair regimen right? At least for many of us.
So how can you accomplish both?
In a previous post (Reboot your hair in 6 Steps: Step 1), I shared the first step to starting over on your healthy hair journey. This is something you may want to do if you find your hair not looking it’s best or you simply want a fresh start.
Growing your hair and maintaining its length is not an unreasonable expectation to accomplish when you decide to reboot your hair following the 6 steps being shared here on Fine Natural Hair and Faith.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am not a licensed cosmetologist or hair specialist. What I share here on Fine Natural Hair and Faith are ideas and methods that I’ve found work for my own hair. Some things may not be traditional but that doesn’t mean they can’t work for you. It’s all about trying things out.
Step 2: Clarify Your Hair
Now that we got that out of the way (just in case you’re new here), let’s talk about the second step in starting over on a healthy hair journey – clarifying your hair.
After you’ve cleaned out your product stash and procured those items that you know work for your hair, it’s time to give your strands a clean slate.
Why Clarify Your Hair?
Clarifying your hair does a few things:
- Removes product build up from your hair and scalp
- Improves your hair’s ability to receive deeper moisture
- Prepares you to effectively follow the Curly Girl Method should you choose to embrace this method of caring for your curls.
While the curly girl method may be controversial for using condition to clean the hair and scalp, it’s been proven to be very effective at helping hair to receive and maintain moisture. Yes, it can cause product build up too but that’s what clarifying is for.
Clarify your hair when you want to start a new hair regimen like the curly girl method and clarify your hair at least once a month while on the curly girl method. Clarifying your hair helps you keep product build up at bay across the board. It’s the 2nd step in rebooting your hair.
