In my last wash day chronicle I shared how I used a new shampoo and conditioner. These products were sent to me from Maple Holistics and below is my unbiased review.
I was really excited to use these products mainly because of the abundance of clean ingredients. I love that there are no sulfates, no silicones, and no parabens. Being a fine haired curly girl, I MUST be in tune with my ingredients. I will not use products (not even free ones) that contain ingredients that could potentially harm my hair.
I read a few reviews on the Argan Shampoo and the Silk18 Conditioner before trying just to get a gauge of what others have experienced. The consensus was very similar across the board but there were a few differences that others experienced that I did not. Read on for the full review.

Like all other sulfate free shampoos that I use, I focused on applying the shampoo to clean my scalp. I don’t run shampoo down the length of my hair. I allow that to happen as the shampoo is being rinsed out.
This shampoo is definitely very gentle as claimed. My scalp felt clean and refreshed and I didn’t feel any stripping effect to my fine strands. What I also appreciate is that my roots were not tangled after rinsing the shampoo out. I tend to get slightly tangly roots (even when washing in twists) when I shampoo my hair. I was pleasantly surprised at how gentle this shampoo was. Score!
Maple Holistics Silk18 Conditioner

Ingredients: Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Phytokeratin, Propanediol, Caprylic Capric Triglyceride, Argan Oil, Shea Butter, Certified Organic Blend Pomegranate, Hibiscus, Green Tea and Sea Buckthorn, Silk Amino Acids, Jojoba Oil, Natural Vanilla Fragrance, Panthenol, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate
Retail Price: $12.97-8oz / $23.35 – 16 oz
I love this conditioner for my fine natural hair. It’s a light weight but every effective conditioner that did not weigh my hair down. Silk18 also has a very light vanilla scent which I like. I do not like hair products that are scented strongly or overly fragrant.
On wash day, I used the conditioner right after my strengthening deep conditioner from another line. I was concerned that the conditioner was so light weight that it may not soften and detangle my hair. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. My hair was not only softened within seconds, it was easily finger detangled. I also applied the conditioner as my leave in underneath my gel for a wash ‘n go. My curls were defined and soft.
Final Thoughts
Normally, I have pros and cons to share about products when I review them but there was only 1 con for me and that was that not all the ingredients are natural. I get that preservatives are needed to provide a product with some form of shelf life. My only qualm is that I feel the shampoo had 1 too many ingredients that I couldn’t pronounce. They may not be harsh ingredients but I had to plug them into the cosmetic database to figure out what they were.
As for my results, they were better than expected and the price is very fair for what you would pay for natural hair products. I actually thought they would be more expensive.
