The Absolute Best Bobby Pins for Styling Natural Hair
Last updated on September 3rd, 2017 at 03:55 pm
Naturally curly hair is fragile. That’s because there are so many bends and grooves along the hair shaft.
Running a comb down the hair can literally rip curly hair to shreds if not done properly (i.e. hair sautéed with oils or conditioner). But, this post isn’t about combing your hair. It’s about protecting it when you are in the midst of styling it.
Bobby pins are commonly used to style the hair. There are many brands of bobby pins on the market but if you want one that will not damage your hair, that glides easily and in and out of your hair, look no further.
Goody Ouchless Bobby Pins
These Goody Ouchless Bobby Pins are the absolute best for secure fine natural tresses. They hold any style in place but what’s most impressive about these bobby pins is they do not snag the hair when you are putting them in or when you are taking them out. Hence, the term “Ouchless.”
I tend to be a little rough when taking bobby pins out of my hair. Sometimes I can forget that you should open the bobby pin before removing it. That’s these are the best bobby pins to use on natural hair (especially fine natural hair).
Where to Purchase Goody Ouchless Bobby Pins
I’ve found it very difficult to locate Goody Ouchless Bobby Pins in the store. I searched all the stores that carried the Goody brand in the city I live in and couldn’t find the Ouchless line. This was odd considering I live in New York where you can find almost everything!
I finally found the Ouchless pins in a drug store in New York City. If you are in the New York City area, you may be able to find them in a Duane Reade. The other drug store chains (Walgreen’s, CVS etc) don’t carry it. They are too busy carrying the Scunchi brand (shame on them).

Nearly all styling products from Goody are gentle to natural hair but the Ouchless sub-brand (you know…brand of the brand. I think that’s what it’s called…or at least that’s what I’m calling it!) is the most gentle. I highly recommend purchasing them online because as I mentioned, they are not that easy to find in stores. You’ll want to stock up with a few picks when you order them because you know how bobby pins are. They magically disappear over time!

I can’t see the bobby pins. Are they on top of your head?
Nope my hair is pinned up, creating a faux bob using the Ouchless bobby pins.
