CURLS Blueberry Bliss Styling Products: In Review
Last updated on June 29th, 2020 at 06:29 pm
Normally when writing product previews, I save my overall thoughts on a product or products until I reach the end of the post. In the case of the CURLS Blueberry Bliss styling products, I’ll spill the tea up front.
I EXTREMELY like these products. I give the overall line a 4/5 for performance. I can’t say I love these products because there is one thing that bothers me but I’ll share more on that later.
I purchased the following CURLS products from the Blueberry Bliss line at my local beauty supply store:
- Blueberry Bliss Twist N Shout Cream
- Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly
- Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Paste (not pictured..I’m still working on an old jar with the orange label)
The new Blueberry Bliss products are supposed to be exclusive to Target (and now Rite Aid) but I live in NY and there’s nothing you can’t get here.
I would have purchased from one of the 3 Targets near my home but I didn’t feel like driving that far. Yes, far is a 30 minute drive. So, I decided to check a beauty supply store only 5 minutes away from my home.
I shared my initial thoughts on the Twist-N-Shout Cream and Curl Control Jelly on Instagram but it’s now time for an in depth look at what I found to be the pros and cons of these styling products.
Pros
Both styling products from the Blueberry Bliss line from CURLS have a pleasant smell (although some compare it to a sweet alcoholic drink LOL) and have a nice amount of slip. I like how easily I can work these products through my hair and finger detangle while shaping my curls.
The Twist-N-Shout Cream does a great job of smoothing my hair and absorbing into my fine strands without weighing my hair down too much. It does weigh it down some but it’s just the right amount of weight for me to achieve an elongated wash and go

The Curl Control Jelly does not dry with any sort of crunch and it appears to do just what it claims to do – control the curls. When applying to wet hair, I found my curls to be easily shaped. Plus, the extra moisture obtained from this product is awesome sauce (that may be an old saying but I like it!).
Ingredients: Water, blueberry leaf extract (, PEG 40 hydrogenated castor oil (seeds co pressed from the ricinus communis plant), acrylates copolymer (stabilizer that sets the hair and protects it from humidity), carbomer polymide-1, aminomethyl propanol (ph adjuster used at less than 1%), caprylyl glycol (natural fatty acid), sorbic acid (organic food preservative), hexyl cinnamal (fragrance from the essential oil of chamomile).
Avg Retail Price: $18 for 8 oz.
The Curl Control Paste works well at smoothing frizzy or simply untamed edges. It can be a little tacky if you use too much but it’s easily smoothed out with a nifty hair “toothbrush.” I’ve been using this edge control product for about a year now. It’s the first product released from the Blueberry Bliss line.
Ingredients: Water, Ceteareth-25, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Vegetable Glycerin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Keratin, Hydrolyzed Quinoa, Silk Amino Acids, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Jojoba Esters, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Blue 1, Red 33
Avg Retail Price: $12 for 4 oz.
Cons
With all of the wonderful pros, I do have one con related to performance. On the first day after washing, my hair got a little frizzy, specifically at the crown area (I mentioned that in my Instagram post). It’s not that big of a deal but I was hoping to get at least 3 days before frizz popped up.
In spite of this, I definitely plan to keep using these products. My staple wash and go products are by far the Sweet Buttah + Around the Way Gel from Curl Prep. However, they are more expensive than the CURLS products. So, now I have an option and can alternate between the two. I only wish the Curl Control Jelly was available in a larger size.
Final Thoughts
While I did share the ingredients in the three Curls Blueberry Bliss styling products, I only have one comment about them. As you can see from the ingredients, they aren’t exactly “green” products. That’s typically what you get with drug store products. However, the Twist and Shout Cream does have multiple organic ingredients. If the not so natural ingredients don’t bother you, definitely give these a try.
Overall, I am pleasantly surprised by how these products performed in my hair. I didn’t expect the results I achieved because of my past experience (not a good one) with the Curls Creme Brulée line.
In spite of the early onset of frizz, I still really like these products for how they make my hair look and feel.
Does the gel contain alcohol ?
not the damaging alcohols no
