Shea Moisture Sacha Inchi Oil Products: In Review
Last updated on June 29th, 2020 at 06:28 pm
Shea Moisture is on a roll with how often they are releasing new products (the most recent being their Sacha Inchi Oil Hair Products.
I like that they are always innovating but it can be somewhat overwhelming. The way I fight the overwhelm is to not even bother trying products that don’t pertain to my hair’s needs (ex: the High Porosity line). I also won’t buy new products that may perform similar to products I already have in abundance.
Well, I was thrilled to see Shea Moisture’s new Sacha Inchi hair products because I’m running short on twisting products and these products are supposed to be great at smoothing your hair’s cuticles, locking in moisture and keeping frizz at bay.
I still have some of Shea Moisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Curling Gel Soufflé but I’ve been using these products for a long time. It’s high time I try something new and the Sacha Inchi Gel and Smoothie seem comparable and promising.
There are a number of Shea Moisture products made with the Sacha Inchi Oil but these are the ones I purchased and am reviewing:
- Sacha Inchi Oil Omega, 3, 6, 9 Rescue +Â Repair Co-Wash
- Sacha Inchi Oil Omega, 3, 6, 9 Rescue +Â Repair Twist & Lock Gel
- Sacha Inchi Oil Omega, 3, 6, 9 Rescue +Â Repair Curl Defining Smoothie
Sacha Inchi seeds are a super food consisting of approximately 35% protein and 55% oil. They are rich in Omegas 3, 6, 9 and vitamins A & E but low in saturated fats.
Product Claims
Shea Moisture’s claim about the products in the Sacha Inchi Oil line include:
Penetrate the hair shaft to deliver essential nutrients; lift away impurities without stripping hair of natural oils; Transform frazzled, distressed hair into smooth, well-defined curls and coils
Builds a nourishing moisture barrier on the skin and helps revive damaged hair. Quinoa An ancient grain rich in protein and vitamins. Rose of Jericho ExtractsDraws in and helps hold essential hydration.
Pros
Having used each of the three products that I purchased a number of times, I give this line 4.5/5 stars. The ingredients are excellent (classic Shea Moisture) and I found that these products perform very well for their intended purposes.
My hair was left very moisturized. That’s obviously explained by the fact that water is the first ingredient on each of the product labels. The Twist and Lock Gel contains a whole lot of slip which is very important because my fine hair can get pretty tangled.
The price point for each of these products is more than fair. The smoothie is slightly more than Shea Moisture’s Curl Enhancing smoothie but the gel is less than what you’d pay for the curling soufflé. You get quite a bit of product in the jars and you only need to use a smidge (did I say smidge?) making the price for these products quite fair. The only exception is the co-wash.
Some people have declared that they don’t like the smell of the Sacha Inchi products. I actually like it. It’s a very mild and clean scent. To me, it smells like there’s a hint of baby powder in it. I prefer this type of clean scent over some of the very perfumey scents in some of the other Shea Moisture products.
Cons
I don’t have any serious cons. Even after a couple of days, my hair was very moisturized. My only issue is that the bottle of co-wash is inadequate in size. I used nearly 1/3 of the bottle. Since it’s a low lather co-wash, I didn’t expect any suds but I felt like I had to use a little too much product. Hence, I’d appreciate a larger size.

To Purchase
You can purchase Shea Moisture’s Sacha Inchi Oil hair products from Ulta Beauty or directly from Shea Moisture at SheaMoisture.com. You’ll have to search their site for the gel. As of the writing of this post, it doesn’t appear listed with the other products. It’s there though!
FINAL THOUGHTS
Aside from the co-wash not offering enough product for the price, the reason I didn’t give this line 5/5 stars is the stylers don’t provide enough hold for a wash and go. The smoothie alone helps define the curls but is not sufficient alone for a long lasting wash and go. Adding the Sacha Inchi Oil Lock and Twist Gel didn’t help but it performs WONDERFULLY for setting twists that eventually become a soft set and defined twist out.
While my fine natural hair will always be prone to frizz, I’m happy that using the Lock & Twist Gel helped to keep the frizz at bay for a few days.
I have super fine hair and the struggle with frizz is a daily fight. I hope to find something that actually works. Thanks for this review.
i can totally relate. This line is excellent. Doesn’t weigh the hair down. As gels go for eliminating frizz, I really like Camille Rose Naturals Curlmaker (less is more), the new Ecostyler Coconut Gel and Mielle Organics Honey Ginger Styling gel
Having a little more in the bottle for the money is what we all want, especially when a little bit does not go a long way. Excellent review!
seriously! I really like this product too. I’m going to rack up at the natural hair show in July!
