LOW MANIPULATION STYLING: with Waveformers

If you enjoy wearing your hair curled then you’ll be pleased to know that curls can be a great low manipulation hairstyle when maintained properly. Styling with Waveformers is a sweet like that resembles a bantu knot out.

Waveformers are basically knock off versions of Curlformers. The concept came from Curlformers using a hook to pull hair through a mesh roller.

Yet, the design of Waveformers (which by the way isn’t actually the legit name for these curlers) is such that it doesn’t yield the same type of curl as Curlformers.

Curlformers yield a spiral curl while the Waveformers yield a more old school wavy curl.

While both Curlformers and Waveformers can help create a great low manipulation hairstyle (depending on how you care for your hair throughout the week), Waveformers can help set the base for seriously stretched natural hair.

When your hair is stretched, the hairstyling possibilities are endless…like a stretched out twist out, braid out (sleek bun anyone?)

Even though your ends are not protected, (hence loose curls are not a protective style) setting your hair in these wave forming rollers is considered a low manipulation style because after the curls are set all you need to do is secure your hair at night. Then, fluff and shake the next morning.

How to Make a Waveformers Set Last

There’s no need to run a comb through your hair to restyle it the next day after setting it with the Waveformers if you do a few things:

  1. Set your curls with a product that offers a bit of hold but not too much. (example: a mousse)
  2. Make sure you have enough rollers to set your hair in small sections. (in a video I recorded on Youtube, I had to do larger sections. Hence, the style didn’t last as long as it could have. Subscribe to my channel to be alerted of when it goes live)
  3. To preserve the style over night, by pulling your curls up loosely in a high puff using an accessory like the PuffCuff. This is a good tool to use to secure your curls. It won’t crush the curls or leave marks on the hair where it’s holding the hair in place.
  4. Tie your edges down with a satin or silk scarf
