One of the best tools you add to your hair care routine if you are looking to grow your hair is a hair growth oil. Below you’ll find my S-Secrets Growth Oil review. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and in this post I will share how I’ve been using it along with my thoughts on the brand.
Before I get into my review sharing my thoughts and experiences on S-Secrets hair growth oil, let me tell you a bit about how I found this product.
While I’m a YouTuber, I also thoroughly enjoy watching natural hair videos from other YouTubers. I came across this video from Selena Zinchuk:
How I Use S-Secrets Growth Oil
As you can see, this video makes some amazing promises concerning the leave in hair mixture and hair growth oil should you regularly use it and not wash it out.
The hair growth oil mentioned in the video is what the S-Secrets Growth Oil I’ve been using. She also sells a version with caffeine in it.
I’ve been using the growth oil in the spritz which I recreated per this video. I’ve also been using it to massage my scalp 2-3 times a week.
I also make the leave in spray once a week and use it in my hair 3-4 times week. It’s been about 3 1/2 weeks since I’ve started and while that’s not enough time to determine how fast it makes ones hair grow, it is enough time to formulate an opinion on the quality of the hair oil.
S-Secrets Growth Oil Ingredients
The ingredients in this hair growth oil are pretty top notch (notice the number of herbs in it):
Black Rice Powder, Black Cumin Seed Powder, Brahmi Powder, Amla powder, Henna Powder, Moringa Powder, MSM Powder, Horsetail herb, Avocado Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Olive Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Castor Oil, Organic Neem Oil, Rosemary Herb, Lavender Herb, Rosemary Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Peppermint Oil, Vitamin E Oil, and Natural Jasmine fragrance oil
The herbs and oils in this product are amazing for the most part. My one questionable ingredient is the “natural jasmine fragrance oil.” It’s a bit ambiguous as to what this actually is. Is it an essential oil? Is it a fragrance oil? It’s not really clear from the ingredient label.
If this is an essential oil, then the ingredients get 5 stars across the board. If it’s a fragrance oil, I’ll have to knock off a star (or maybe half a star). Fragrance oils are artificial and synthetic and I try to steer clear from those.
Here’s a close up of this growth oil. You can actually see some of the herbs in the product. I love that.
What I Love
Aside from being able to see the actual herbs in this growth oil, there are a few other things that I love:
- It doesn’t smell overly herby
- The oil makes my scalp tingle in the perfect way. Not too much, not too little
- It helps alleviate itching
- You only need a little. The applicator tip on the bottle makes it so not too much oil flows out
About the Business
The last thing I want to address is my thoughts on the business from what I see online.
While Mrs. Zinchuk is a woman of color, you would not be able to tell from her website. In fact, there’s a white lady with loose curly hair right on the front.
Normally I wouldn’t have an issue with that. My concern is unless you go to the “Videos” tab, you would not know that this a black owned business.
Let me back track for a moment.
Mrs. Zinchuk’s husband appears to be caucasian. So, maybe the white woman on the front cover is in some way related? I’m not sure. I just think that women of color should also be represented because it’s us kinky hair girls who seem to be the majority supporters of the brand.
I think there’s just some ambiguity concerning who S-Secrets target market really is. At the very least, there should be a picture of Mrs. Zinchuk on the “Our Story” page.
That’s it and this concludes my S-Secrets Growth Oil review.
