A Thanksgiving Prayer of Gratitude for the Woman at the Table

Thanksgiving is a time when many of us gather with our families for little more than some really good food. But I want to challenge us as women of faith to remember that Thanksgiving can also be a sensitive time.

You can come to the table with a full heart and still be tired. You can be thankful for the people around you while carrying things they know nothing about.

Thanksgiving That Comes From the Heart

Oftentimes, we hear people talk about gratitude in a very generic sense, almost like checking things off a list: my family, my job, my friends.

There’s nothing wrong with being thankful for those things. But when we express gratitude as thanksgiving to our Creator, let’s do it from the heart. Colossians 3:15 reminds us to be thankful. The very breath in our lungs is a gift from Him.

Whether you’re a single mother juggling a ton of responsibilities, a wife and mother, or a woman without children, there is room for you in this prayer. You can thank God for His goodness while being honest with Him about how you’re really doing.

A Thanksgiving Morning Prayer for the Woman at the Table

On Thanksgiving, we often pray over the food and the table. But how often do we pray over the woman sitting at it? The woman who prepared the food, brought people together, and helped make the gathering possible?

That’s the woman I want to pray for today.

“Father, in the name of Jesus, I come before You thanking You for the woman at the table. The woman who may feel overlooked or overwhelmed. Thank You for her life, her efforts, and the love she pours into the people around her.

Your Word says in Isaiah 41:10, “I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Lord, strengthen her today. Remind her that the same hands that have held her through this year are holding her now.

Thank You for the body that has carried her throughout this year. Even through nights of little sleep, You carried her through. Help her care for her body with kindness and receive the rest she needs.

Multitasking may not always have been the greatest thing for her, but thank You for the good she was able to do while juggling so many responsibilities. Thank You for helping her care for others, solve problems, and make the most of what she had.

Thank You for her willingness to step into the purpose You have placed before her and for the lives she touches along the way. Like the woman described in Proverbs 31, she brings strength, wisdom, and care to those around her. Let her know that her efforts matter and that she is loved.

Lord, let the woman reading this prayer enter this Thanksgiving season with a heart of thanksgiving not just for her food and family, but also for the great gift of life You’ve given her.

Remind her of the purpose and destiny You have set before her. Help her recognize Your goodness in this season, even where she is still waiting for answers.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Before the Day Begins

I encourage you to take a few minutes with God early Thanksgiving morning. Read this prayer, make it personal, and thank Him for the ways He has carried you through this year.
