Intro: Bible Devotional About Honor

As of the writing of this Bible devotional about honor, we are one day post Resurrection Sunday. Every year, believers celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, followed by His death, burial, and resurrection. If you aren’t careful, this can become very ritualistic.

Admittedly, I can recall many years when it was just something we did in remembrance of Christ. But this year things hit differently. I actually began reading the scriptures about Jesus leading up to resurrection Sunday.

I began to soberly think about all that Christ fulfilled to rescue me from sin. And, I felt really bad. Not condemned by God, kind of bad, but convicted by the sheer fact that Jesus was innocent, but He died so I wouldn’t have to.

So, the tears poured, and I received a fresh view of all Jesus accomplished for me when He went to that cross – the cross that rightfully belonged to me. And, now I’m so grateful, so grateful that He did.

I feel so honored and loved, and writing these monthly devotionals for women is just a small way I can show honor to my Savior. That’s why today’s Bible devotional is about “Honoring God.”

Verses for Honoring God

We are at the beginning of a new month, and I’ve assembled a Bible list of 30 short Bible verses that you can use as a scripture writing plan, or if you want to go deeper, use this list for verse mapping scriptures. Sign up to download this and other scripture reading/writing plans here.

I learned the James Method of verse mapping, and it’s a form of personal Bible study I recommend all believers do regularly. It’s not a beginner way of studying, but Lauren, Creator of the James Method, has a very good instructional course on how to verse map. It’s called the Happy Mapper Course.

So, if you want to do an entire study using this method of scripture journaling & studying using this 30-day devotional reading plan, check out their Verse Map Journals here.

Scripture Focus Verse for the Day

When you think of honoring God, what verses of scripture come to mind? For me, it’s Mark 12:30:

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

This verse doesn’t mention the word “honor,” but to love God is to also honor Him. Loving Jesus becomes very easy when God opens your eyes to exactly what He gave up and did for you.

Yet, we humans often struggle to do what we know we should. The apostle Paul said it best in Romans 7:18

Reflections and Encouragement

Sometimes we allow ourselves to fall into disappointment when we make a decision to do something as important as honoring God in our daily lives. That’s because we humans tend to make commitments we aren’t able to keep perfectly.

But God doesn’t require perfection from us. He knows that it’s not possible for fallen man. Yet, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can come really close.

God looks at your heart. King David of the Bible wasn’t perfect. He made mistakes and even committed a grievous sin. Yet, God called him a man after His own heart. How?

David was committed to honoring God. He quickly repented. Was he perfect at it? No, but he had a heart for doing so. That’s all the Lord wants – for us to have a heart for Him. Spend time in God’s Word and His presence, and your heart for honoring Him will grow. I’m living proof.
