The 5-Minute Morning Prayer That Leaves Me Feeling Covered by God
Prayer is not something we should take lightly, especially in these last days. While God is always with us and you can call on Him anytime, there’s something powerful about connecting with Him first thing in the morning. And the best part? It doesnโt have to be long. Just five minutes can start your day covered in Godโs presence.

In this article, Iโm sharing one of my go-to morning prayers thatโs based on scripture. At the end, Iโve also included a few good morning prayer quotes to inspire you to prioritize prayer before the busyness of your day takes over.
Why Daily Morning Prayer?
You can pray at any time, but daily morning prayer is special and unlike any other time. Your mind is clearer, your heart is more open, and you havenโt been hit with distractions yet. For me, when I pray in the morning, everything else in my day flows better. Not perfect, but definitely better.
The Power of Prayer and Scripture
Before I get into the actual prayer, let me say this. When you pray using scripture, youโre reminding yourself (and the enemy) of Godโs promises. God backs up His Word. Heโs not like us. Scripture says God is not a man that He should lie or change His mind (Numbers 23:19). When you pray His Word, youโre standing on solid ground.
So, if youโre feeling like your mornings are out of control or your days never go as planned, you need God to step in. This simple 5-minute prayer is a powerful way to start. Itโs based on Psalm 91, and it covers you and your family with divine protection.
Psalm 91: A Prayer of Protection
Psalm 91 is packed with promises. Itโs not just poetry or vague promises. It covers every area of your life. While you donโt need to pray/confess it word for word each day, you should use it as a model to build your own personal prayer.
Hereโs the full chapter from the New Living Translation:
1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 This I declare about the LORD : He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
3 For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.
4 He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day.
6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
7 Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.
8 Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished.
9 If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter,
10 no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.
11 For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.
12 They will hold you up with their hands so you wonโt even hurt your foot on a stone.
13 You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!
14 The LORD says, โI will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.
15 When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.
16 I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.โ
Praying Psalm 91 Every Morning
I have a magnet on my fridge with a version of Psalm 91 turned into a personal prayer. I got it from Creflo Dollar Ministries back in 2020 during the start of the pandemic.

He started praying Psalm 91 live every weekday morning, and it helped so many of us stay grounded. Even now, I still make these confessions, which is essentially the prayer.
Dr. Dollar calls it being “Psalm 91 equipped.” And thatโs exactly what weโre doing here: equipping ourselves with the Word first thing in the morning.
Make Yourself Psalm 91 Equipped
Put God first by starting your morning off by praying and confessing this over your life:
I declare:
- God is my refuge and fortress; I trust and rely on him with great confidence.
- God rescues me from every trap and protects me from every disease.
- Iโm covered and protected by his outstretched arms.
- Godโs faithful promises are my armor and protection.
- Iโm not afraid of terrors of the night or arrows of the day
- I wonโt dread any disease that talks in darkness nor any disaster that strikes at midday
- God is my refuge and the Almighty God of my home, no evil can be before me, and the plague can come near my dwelling.
- God has ordered his angels to guard, defend, and protect me in my house.
- The armies of heaven keep me from falling, so I walk, unharmed, and kick evil from my path.
- Because God loves me, I call on him; he sets me above my troubles and delivers me from all my fears.
- He honored me with his presence and power.
- He will reward me with long life and show me his salvation
- I declare that I am Psalm 91 equipped for this day, in Jesus name. Amen.
Make this your daily habit. Say it before you leave the house. Say it over your kids.
I created a pretty printable with this prayer on it. Print it out, stick it in your planner, or put it on your mirror. Download the Psalm 91 prayer here.
Good Morning Prayer Quotes

Here are a few quotes to help you stay focused on God as you begin your day:
- “When you begin your day in prayer, you hand over the keys to God and let Him drive.”
- “Prayer doesnโt just prepare you for the day. It prepares the day for you.”
- “A day started in Godโs presence is a day already won.”
Can I get an amen?
More Prayer Articles to Strengthen Your Faith
Here at Fine Natural Hair and Faith, I talk about more than just hair. While I started out writing mostly about hair care (especially for those of us with fine strands), I also believe that caring for your spirit is even more important.
When I became an ordained evangelist over five years ago, I knew my assignment wasnโt just the pulpit. It was to use my influence wherever I am, not just on the prayer line where I lead prayer on the phone, but wherever I have been given a platform and influence by God, like right here on this website.
So youโll find me writing more about prayer, faith, and how to walk with God in everyday life.
