How to Create a Bold Prayer Life (Even If You Feel Inconsistent)

If you struggle with prayer, the chances are high that you aren’t consistently doing so. If learning to pray is of interest, keep reading.

You may pray when you are in dire straits or even when somebody asks you to pray for them. You do the best you know how to.

However, life throws us way too many curveballs to pray sporadically and inconsistently. That’s why I’m making it a point to now share all I know about prayer here at Fine Natural Hair and Faith My goal? So, you learn to pray with confidence.

Prayer shouldn’t just be a response to trouble. It’s a lifeline to God Himself. Without consistency in prayer, we risk feeling distant from God, overwhelmed by lifeโ€™s challenges, and unsure of how to stand firm when those challenges come our way.

Switching the Focus of Fine Natural Hair and Faith

I think I’ve shared enough natural hair tips (especially for fine hair) that I can now switch focus. I don’t think it was ever God’s plan for me to just talk about hair for the rest of my days. This blog will now be more focused on the things of God: prayer, building faith, and growing spiritually.

I will still sometimes share hair care-related content, but since only what we do for Christ will last, I’m switching the focus to more faith-based content.

Boldness in Prayer

One thing the enemy wants is for you to be full of doubt and shy when you pray. That’s because there’s no real power in a prayer that’s filled with doubt.

The Lord is so pleased when His children come boldly to His throne of grace to obtain help in a time of need. He says so right in Hebrews 4:16.

Boldness in prayer doesn’t come by accident, though. It takes building your faith – faith in God’s Word and His ability to answer your prayers. It also takes being intentional and preparing.

What is Bold Prayer?

Praying bold prayers isn’t about being loud or forceful in how you pray. It’s also not about โ€œbeggingโ€ the Lord for what you want or need.

It is approaching God with confidence, faith, and trust in who He is and what He’s said. It’s praying from a heart that fully believes God hears you, cares for you, and acts according to His promises.

God Himself has declared that He is not a man that He should lie, neither the son of man that He should repent. If He said it, He will do it. Numbers 23:19

Praying boldly looks like this:

  • Praying the promises of God back to Him
  • Being bold in your faith and refusing to allow doubt to take root in your spirit
  • Coming to God again and again with confidence, knowing He welcomes you every time

Preparation for Prayer

Some people just call out to God whenever they need help. Others talk to Him on a whim. And, while God always welcomes our every cry and whisper, something powerful happens when we come to the Lord prepared, anchoring our prayers in His Word.

To pray effectively, prepare in advance before approaching the Lord, and then pray the scriptures. Here’s my 7-step “formula” for praying the scriptures:

  1. Identify and decide what you need to pray about.
  2. Use a Bible concordance (hereโ€™s a good one from Blue Letter Bible online; Hereโ€™s a printed concordance) to look up the topic or keyword thatโ€™s relevant to your prayer. Then, write down the scriptures. You donโ€™t have to write them all down but you need to capture enough verses you can pray through and confess daily.
  3. Write the verses on index cards or on your prayer planner. When you pray, you remind God of what Heโ€™s already said in His word. Then, speak forth the scriptures you believe in.
  4. Personalize the promises.
  5. Thank God for being purposeful, reliable, and true to His word.
  6. Whenever you pray, thank God for the answer and โ€œremindโ€ Him that you are believing Him for (fill in the blank) based on His word in (fill in the scripture)
  7. Trust and Wait. Stay consistent by continuing to confess and stand on those scriptures until you see the manifestation of God’s word and peace settles in your heart.

Waiting on God

Sometimes, after praying, we don’t immediately receive the answer we believe for. Yet, the Bible reminds us that faith is the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).

Waiting on God is not passive. Itโ€™s actively trusting Him and His promises. Continue to pray, confess, and believe, knowing that God is faithful to perform His Word in His timing.

So, be encouraged knowing that when you pray according to God’s will, you are being heard.
