Strengthening Your Hair and Faith: Guide to Intentional Living Inside and Out
If you’ve been frustrated with your hair, you’re not alone. Hair strengthening takes time, effort, and trust, just like learning to walk by faith. Some days, you see progress. Other days, it feels like nothing’s working. Sound familiar?

The truth is, both journeys require patience and intention. You don’t have to separate your spiritual life from your self-care. That’s where intentional living comes in. It’s choosing to show up for both. It’s mindful living with a focus on these areas that help you with your personal development.
However, if you’re just reading this for tips on strengthening your hair for retaining hair length, then you are missing the big picture.
Your hair isn’t the only thing that’s been breaking. If you haven’t been spending much time in God’s Word, so is your faith.
And just like your strands, your spirit needs strengthening too.
It’s my goal that after you read this post, you’ll leave feeling encouraged, and you’ll find the daily affirmations shared helpful for your hair and your faith.
What It Means to Walk by Faith: Even in Your Hair Journey
There’s a lot of talk about faith in Christian circles – with good reason. Living a life any other way than by faith can be pretty bleak and disappointing.
You’ve probably heard people say things in response to challenges like, “Just have faith” or “Walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Well, it’s certainly easier said than done. Most people don’t even know what true faith actually is. So, let’s define it.
Faith Is…
For starters, faith is not just believing. Faith is exactly what the Word of God says it is. It’s the substance of things hoped for. It’s the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)
Since faith has substance, that means it’s made of something (Matthew 4:4). What is that something?
It’s God’s Word which is living and active (Hebrews 4:12). So, you can’t have faith without the word of God.
Also, faith is the proof of what you are looking to receive. The evidence. The promises you find in God’s word for your life are the proof you need. If God said it, it will come to pass for He is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23:19).
You can stand on His Word and know with full assurance of faith that it will bring forth what you are believing God for.
Lastly, faith acts. James 2:17 says faith without works is dead. That means, if you truly have faith in God’s words for something, your actions should line up with what you are believing for.

Faith for Your Hair: The 7 Steps
So, how do we walk by faith in your hair journey? The same way you walk by faith in any other area of your life:
- Find a promise in the Word of God for what you’re believing
- Pray the promise (in English and praying in the Spirit)
- Speak the promise regularly
- Don’t speak against the promise
- If there’s anything you should be doing in the natural realm to align with the spiritual, do it
- Do the practical things that reflect what you are believing for (for example, intentionally doing very targeted healthy hair routines for retaining hair length)
- Wait on God
If I needed to believe God for healthy hair, I’d go to the Bible and search for promises – words of God that I could apply to what I’m believing for (like Psalm 37:4 and 3 John 1:2)
Then, I’d pray the scriptures back to God, speak the promise regularly, and make sure I’m not speaking negatively about the health of my hair.
However, I’d also make sure I’m following a healthy hair regimen so that my actions are in line with what I say I believe God for.
Hair Strengthening Routine

Now, let’s switch gears and make a practical plan for strengthening your hair. Just like you take intentional steps to strengthen your faith (spending time in God’s Word), you need to take intentional steps toward strengthening your hair so it can thrive.
What does that look like? Here is a 7-step hair strengthening routine to start the journey toward strong, resilient hair:
- Start with a clean slate – trimmed ends, eliminating splits and knots
- Working with your hair’s porosity, determine how often your hair needs protein (if you have low porosity hair, for example, you’ll need less protein – less in frequency and less in strength. CG Curls shares an exhaustive list of the different types of protein for hair here.
- On wash day, decide if your hair needs protein based on how it feels:
- Limp, lifeless, or mushy feeling: Protein
- Lacks elasticity, dry and breaking: Moisture
- Follow protein treatments with deep conditioning sans protein
- Hairstyling habits to avoid: tight hairstyles, excessive heat styling
- Protect your hair from breakage when handling and sleeping
- Be consistent with your wash day routine and appropriate hair treatments
Lastly, use products with clean ingredients because chemicals are caustic and can cause damage to your hair, which is a fragile fiber.
7 Daily Affirmations for Women of Faith

I’m a firm believer in what the Bible says: Life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).
You can speak life over your entire being, and that includes your hair. Consequently, you can also speak death over it, and that’s exactly what you do when you say things like, “I hate my hair,” or “My hair never looks good.”
So, let’s start speaking life. These words of affirmation will strengthen both your faith and your confidence in who you are in Christ. Your beauty is in your identity, and your identity is in who your father is – not your earthly father, your Heavenly Father.
Regularly speak these 7 words of affirmation over yourself:
- God has exchanged my ashes for beauty and crowned me with glory. My hair is a reflection of His creativity (see Isaiah 61:3 & Psalm 8:5)
- God sees me, cares for me, and I can trust Him with the details of my life, even my hair. (See Luke 12:7)
- The Lord is restoring my hair’s health. I receive healing, growth, and renewal from the inside out (see Jeremiah 30:17)
- I nourish my hair with intention, knowing God nourishes me (see Proverbs 3:8)
- I delight in the Lord and trust Him with my hair goals. (see Psalm 37:4)
- I am like a well-watered garden, hydrated and thriving. (See Isaiah 58:11)
- I am God’s masterpiece. My words have power, and I choose to speak growth, beauty, and life over my hair and purpose. (See Proverbs 18:21 & Ephesians 2:10)
I love the number 7 because it’s God’s number of completion. He created the world in 6 days and on the 7th day He rested.
So, stick with these, but you can also find more motivational Bible verses based on the Word of God.
When speaking affirmations, it’s not just speaking “wishes.” That’s what people are doing when they create affirmations based on their skills and resources (God given by the way), what they can do for themselves.
These affirmations are based on what God has already said.
Practicing Intentional Living from Wash Day to Worship

Intentional living is all about making choices on purpose. These choices should obviously be aligned with your goals.
It’s about creating space for what matters and removing the things that don’t. It’s not about perfection. You decide how you will show up.
In both faith and hair care, it’s about being consistent; Consistent with the choices you make to care for your hair and how you are going to grow in your faith.
Just like a regular wash day routine helps you maintain healthy hair, regular time in God’s presence, praying, and reading His Word will strengthen your spirit.
Routines create rhythm, and rhythm brings peace. That’s why when you build habits that support your outer and inner health, you’ll start to feel more aligned and less scattered.

Weekly Hair & Faith Rhythm Routine
Here’s a simple weekly rhythm that ties your hair care with your faith that you can incorporate into your life:
- Cleanse & Connect (1x per week) – When cleansing your hair, reflect on your life and ask God to renew your mind.
- Moisturize & Meditate (2–3x per week) – Rehydrate your hair and refresh your spirit with a scripture.
- Protect & Pray (daily) – Wrap your hair (or cover it) at night and spend a few moments in prayer and thanksgiving.
This is simple and doable. While you are doing your self-care to keep your hair healthy, it’s the perfect time to connect with God. So there’s no excuse not to connect with the Lord during a time when your mind is pretty quiet.

Next Steps: Make Intentional Choices for Your Hair and Faith
Living with intention means you don’t ignore one part of your life while tending to another. Your hair and your faith may seem unrelated, but both need your attention, consistency, and care.
Also, this isn’t about turning hair care into something deep and spiritual. It’s about choosing to live with purpose. Whether you’re moisturizing your ends or meditating on God’s Word, do so intentionally based on the outcome you are looking for.
You can also start small if this seems a bit overwhelming. Speak one affirmation out loud every day this week. Commit to one hair care habit. Pray one scripture daily.
