There are many reasons why you may get down right tired of your natural hair. Braid outs, twist outs and wash and go’s. Is there anything more??? You’re in need of some serious natural hair motivation!
Maybe you’re sick of putting all your time and energy into styling your hair only for the results to come out less than stellar. (Why aren’t you getting great second day hair?! )
Maybe you aren’t receiving the support of friends and family that you would have liked since you took the plunge and big chopped. This can definitely kill your motivation to continue with your natural hair.
Perhaps you’ve never really learned how to properly care for your hair in its natural state.
For as many reasons as you may come up with to convince yourself that you are through with your natural hair and want to return to the world of hair paralyzers..I mean relaxers, there’s just as many ways to motivate you to fall back in love with your natural hair again.
Motivators to help you Fall Back in Love With Your Natural Hair
- Watch YouTube videos for inspiration – There’s nothing like watching a fellow naturalista styling her beautiful locs or sharing all of the ways that natural hair is versatile. You’ll not only get motivation, you’ll get inspiration – new ideas to help you with caring for and styling your own natural hair.
- Go to a salon and get your hair did! – Either you’ll get pissed off and walk out with a new resolve to care for your own hair or you’ll again recognize the beauty of your natural hair after having it shaped and styled for you.
- Revisit and focus on why you went natural in the first place. Sometimes all it takes is thinking back to the day you decided to make the switch to going natural. What was it that motivated your decision? If you’ve always been natural, think about the potential consequences of adding a chemical straightener to your hair. This will motivate you to continue toward your healthy hair goals.
- Surround yourself with other naturals who are enjoying the journey. You’ve heard the saying, “Birds of a feather flock together.” Spend time with individuals who are solid in their natural hair walk and you’ll find that you will become like minded. Their excitement and resolve can be infectious.
If you are having trouble caring for your natural hair and just don’t give a darn anymore, be intentional about getting out of this slump. Let others motivate you (in one way or another). I can attest that loving your natural hair is more than worth it. Your hair is a reflection of God’s glory. You owe it to yourself to at least do what’s in your control to get back in touch with it. Try one of these methods of natural hair motivation to help you along the way.
