Nothing. No-Thing grates my nerves like things being out of order. That goes for everything from shoes to hair products. While I don’t have as many hair products as I’ve seen some ladies have (check out this stash), I still have a bit more than I should have in a small space. So, I’ve come up with some hair products storage ideas and I’m sharing them with you.

When you live in a small space like an apartment, clutter can quickly overwhelm. That’s why when it comes to lots of bottles of hair products, you need to keep them organized.

For me, keeping it all organized is always a work in progress but it’s worth it to make the effort.

Forget Pinterest Worthy Hair Products Storage Ideas

Storing your hair products doesn’t have to be Pinterest or magazine worthy – just organized in a way that things are easily accessible. In fact, if you live in a small space functionality is your primary goal. You can work on “pretty” later. In fact, I’m doing that in the near future with the help of Professional Organizer, Nikki Boyd of At Home With Nikki.

But, for this post. Let’s just work on getting things stored in an organized way. It’s not pretty but for now things are contained.

The Benefits of Organized Storage

Being organized helps your life in so many ways. That extends beyond hair products:

– You can always find what you need when you need it

– You save money and don’t unknowingly end up buying multiples of items

– Keeps clutter from building

– Promotes a much less stressful existence

– Helps you to be more productive

Key Hair Products Storage Ideas

Some key ways I store my hair products to keep organized, but also that carry over to other areas of my life include…

Grouping like items with each other

One of the best hair products storage ideas you can implement in a small space is keeping the same type of hair products together. This can help you to better see what category of product you may be running low on.

So, group like items with like items:

  • Cleansers & Rinsing Conditioners: Including Shampoos and Co-wash products (to save space, I keep all in my shower area)
  • Leave in Conditioners
  • Treatments
  • Gels
  • Oils
  • Stylers & Creams

Contain items

No matter where I keep my items, I contain them in bins (plastic or metal). That way it prevents things from falling all over the place, especially when I’m grabbing things in a rush.

Sometimes I get sent hair products that I may or may not want to repurchase. I usually keep those items with like items but just outside of the bin I’m storing the regulars in.

Use space saving techniques

When living in an apartment small space organizing is important if you don’t want to look like a case on Hoarders.

I don’t have a huge area where I can store all my hair goodies (otherwise, I might lose my mind). so I have to be strategic with what I bring into my home, as well as how I store them.

Containing my items saves space but there are other techniques I use to help with that as well:

  • Combine 1/2 filled bottles of the same product
  • Use stackable shelves
  • Stack smaller jars on top of larger ones

Regularly Purge Hair Products

No matter how I organize hair products, there comes a time when I’m down to the bottle or jar of a product I know full well I won’t be repurchasing.

Therefore, I make it a point to regularly go through my hair products, discarding what I don’t like or what may have expired. This further helps to keep my hair products organized.

Keeping your small space organized with hair products (or any item for that matter) just requires an honest evaluation of your space, organizing tools (ex: bins) and the willingness to do the work. It doesn’t take long once you have a system in place.

And remember, it doesn’t have to be pretty. Just functional.

Which of these hair products storage ideas would you implement in a small space?
