The Best Detangling Tools for Fine Hair

Detangling is a vital step in hair care. How you do it can determine if you retain length or lose it. Below you’ll find the best detangling tools for fine hair.
Fingers
When you have fine hair, the best tools you can start with are your ten digits. That’s right, your fingers.
I’m not saying you need to strictly finger detangle because while there are pros to finger detangling, there are definitely cons. One con is not being able to remove all shed hair.
For effective detangling, you want to start with your fingers and then move on to using an actual detangling tool.
The E-Z Detangler
Most brushes can wreak havoc on fine hair but a plastic brush like the E-Z Detangler brush helps make detangling a breeze. It “gives” with the hair and helps remove shed hair without a high risk of breakage.
There are generic versions of the EZ detangler brush available on Amazon. They are all crafted and work the same.
One thing that’s important to note however, is there’s no 100% breakage proof method of tangling. There are factors at play that are beyond our control:
- – unknown weaknesses along the hair shaft
- – tough tangles that may break under the pressure of detangling
- – weathered hair
They key is to mitigate excess breakage.
Crave Naturals Glide Thru Detangling Brush
This brush boasts being able to detangle hair in a wet or dry state due to its bristles.
Because fine hair is fragile, I’d err on the side of caution and not detangle hair while it’s dry. Damp hair that has some “slip” added to it, will provide some protection to the hair from damage.
The bristles on this glide through brush are super flexible. It is available in black and 5 other beautiful colors on Amazon.
Large Tooth Seamless Comb
People have been detangling with large tooth combs for forever. What sets a large tooth comb apart so that it’s best for detangling fine hair is seams. It’s the lack of seams that make a comb better to detangle with.
My preferred brand of seamless comb is the Hercules Sageman comb.
They offer large tooth combs with handles and those without but what make them perfect for curly and fine hair is their lack of seams and burrs. This allows the comb to gently glide through the hair without snagging, ripping or splitting strands.
Hercules Sägemann, Magic S...Shop on AmazonWhen a comb doesn’t have seams, there’s no risk of a strand of hair getting caught up in the seam, leading to breakage.
HAIR TIP: You can combine an oil and conditioner to create a detangling pre-poo.
Regardless of what detangling tools (or styling tools) you use on your fine hair, always be sure to add a product that provides a lot of slip for your hair. This includes a detangling spray, natural oil (coconut, almond, olive, etc) and/or a rinse out conditioner.
