God Notes: A Daily Devotional for Christian Women

god notes women's devotional for peace

As we get closer to closing out 2024, we are reminded that a new year is on the horizon.

Will you continue making the same mistakes or will you recognize your reliance on the Lord?

No judgment because we’ve all been there.

When scrolling through Pinterest, I discovered an interesting trend for “God Notes” that people are either using as journal Bible quotes or Bible note card ideas.

Some pins are just these God quotes on sticky notes. These are post-it note-style messages with Scriptures on them from the Word of God. Others have nice little sayings on them that speak truth but aren’t necessarily scripture-based.

Then, there are others that have inspirational words of wisdom based on actual scripture.

I really want Fine Natural Hair and Faith to include more consistent faith-based content vs. sporadic faith-based content. So, every Friday I’ll be sharing a daily devotional for women. They can easily be summed up in what others are calling a “God note.”

Because we focus mostly on natural hair care here on the blog, some of the devotionals will tie into that from time to time.

If you’re interested in a full 30-day devotional that combines hair and faith, check this one out here:

Devotional Scripture on Peace

For our very first daily devotional, we’ll be looking at John 14:27. I like to read scripture in different versions because you can get so much clarity and wisdom by doing it this way. Check out the different versions of this scripture:

I’m leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. and the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. – NLT

I leave the gift of peace with you – my peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. Don’t yield to fear or be troubled in your hearts – instead, be courageous! – TPT

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – NIV

Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled]- AMPC

Did these different versions of John 14:27 not just give you an expanded perspective or what?

HOW DO THESE APPLY TO YOUR LIFE AS A CHRISTIAN WOMAN?

We women are often faced with the majority responsibility of raising our children and maintaining our homes. It’s a different kind of pressure than what men typically have. It’s very easy for us to be shaken when our family’s security feels threatened.

John 14:27 is a scripture that is so fitting for me at this time in my life. We just finished an election in the U.S. To say I’m a bit concerned with the outcome is an understatement.

While I didn’t favor either candidate strongly, I tried to focus on what each candidate claimed to want to do as a whole.

I’m a mother to a special needs son. He is on certain government assistance programs that our newly-elected (and re-elected) president wants to eliminate. To say that I felt a twinge of fear at his election is putting it mildly. But, then in my daily devotional, this is the verse of scripture that I read.

As a Christian woman, I’m reminded of these 3 points:

  • My peace and sanity do not come from the world (or the outcome of an election). God will take care of my son.
  • Being unsettled and fearful is not trusting God. Just as He has provided for us in the past, He will always take care of us.
  • My security is not in a man running the country but in Almighty God who never fails

THOUGHTS TO PONDER

When you face uncertainty (and even a little fear), isn’t it just like God to come and calm your fears? He reminds us of His promise to give peace.

While you may not know what the future holds, one thing is for certain. God Almighty is still in control and He promises to give His children peace and provision. In my case, regardless of who the President is, God is our Provider and Source.

Our jobs as Christians are to pray and leave it all in God’s capable hands. That’s true peace. When you can read God’s Word, receive His immeasurable peace and trust that He’s got you.

TODAY’S GOD QUOTE ON STICKY NOTES

If I had to create just one sticky note to remind me of the promise of God’s peace from John 14:27, it would say:

My peace I leave with you….Stop allowing yourself to be agitated or disturbed.

To create an actual stick note with this “God quote” (or any other scripture verse) it would look like something like this (pin to share with other women of God):
