Devotional: Feeding Your Faith With God’s Word

When I neglect spending time in the Word or in prayer the way I should, I notice my days don’t go as well as they should. I also notice that it’s easier for a circumstance or situation to unsettle my emotions.
It doesn’t happen all at once, but over time, the lack of spiritual nourishment starts to take a toll on the mind and emotions. Scripture has a lot to say about being fed and nourished spiritually, and that theme became the focus of this devotional and a 30-day Bible reading plan for spiritual nourishment.
Introduction
Taking time every day to nourish your spirit is probably not something you consciously plan to do, but it is essential. It’s very difficult to face hard times with strong faith when your spirit is starving. That’s because faith is a spiritual force, and without building it, you become spiritually weak.
Scripture Focus: Verse of the Day
“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4
The Word is clear. While we need nourishment for our physical bodies, we also need nourishment for our spirits. We literally can’t live without God’s Word. You may exist in your physical body for a time, but when your spirit is dead, you aren’t truly living.
Reflections & Encouragement
The beautiful thing about God’s Word is it’s so alive that it has the power to raise the dead – physically and spiritually.
So, if you’ve been neglecting God’s Word, or have been spiritually starving, you can always pick it up, eat, and start feeding your faith. Yet, once you start, you need to be consistent.
Just like you eat tangible food to nourish your body every day, you need spiritual food to nourish your soul every day.
