Spring often stirs thoughts of growth, change, and becoming the woman God is calling you to be. It is a season that naturally invites reflection on what needs to be renewed, what needs to be released, and how you want to move forward.

For many women, choosing to go natural is part of that process. It is an intentional decision to honor the hair God gave them rather than fight against it. Yet too often, women are made to feel less than for embracing what grows naturally from their own heads.

I wrote this devotional to encourage you. As a woman of faith, I want to remind you that becoming the best version of yourself does not begin with chasing society’s standards. It begins with rejecting them, embracing how God created you, and continuing your journey with confidence, and faith.

So, below you’ll find a personal devotional with Spring Bible verses to provide you with an unexpected place to find that encouragement – The Holy Bible, specifically in the Book of Romans.

Key Takeaways

  • Going natural is a way to honor the hair God gave you and embrace its natural beauty.
  • There are parallels between the natural hair journey and teachings from the Book of Romans which emphasizes patience, individuality, and perseverance.
  • Romans 5:3-4 highlights that growth takes time and enduring builds character
  • Romans 12:2 encourages embracing your unique beauty and not conforming to societal standards of beauty.
  • You’ll find a 30-day Bible reading plan through Romans offering further personal growth and encouragement for women of faith.

Throughout the book of Romans, you’ll find Paul’s writings on transformation and the subject of becoming who God destined you to be. There are some honest parallels we can draw from the scriptures as it relates to your natural hair journey that’s worth paying attention to.

Here are five lifestyle inspiration scriptures to encourage you. These are not about how to change yourself. In fact, they are the solid ground you need to stand on to love yourself, your natural hair.

Romans 5:3–4 – It takes time and perseverance to see progress

This verse states that “Suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

If you’ve been on your natural hair journey for any significant period of time, then you came to realize really quickly that this journey requires patience.

Growth can be slow.
Setbacks will surely happen
And, some seasons seem to feel like nothing is changing.

Paul’s point in Romans chapter 5 verses 3 and 4 is that any process you are going through that causes “suffering” (be it physical or the mental kind you go through from disappointment in your hair’s progress), is doing something in you. So you must persevere.

The scriptures tell us that perseverance builds character, and character builds hope. That is true spiritually, and it is a good reminder on the days when your hair is not cooperating either.

If you want to understand how faith and hair care come together in a practical way, you can explore the Faith Based Natural Hair Framework. It walks you through a clear path from identity to consistency so you are not guessing what to focus on next.

Romans 12:2 – You were never meant to fit a standard

This verse says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world.”

The ways of this world usually speak to ease, comfort and conformity. Yet we were made unique, each one of us. From our eyes to the strands of our hair.

When you decided to go natural, it’s highly likely that not everyone was on board with your decision. The world’s standards say that straight hair is the most beautiful but I encourage you to embrace your hair as it is. That doesn’t mean you can never straighten your hair. That is the beauty of natural hair. It is versatile. You can style it in so many ways.

At the end of the day, this is not about styling choices. Choosing to honor what God gave you is the best standard to live by.

Romans 7:15–17- Consistency is difficult for everyone

This verse says, “What I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”

Paul is describing the very real gap between having intention and taking action. While he is speaking about deeper spiritual struggles, the verse also captures something deeply human: even when we know what is good for us, following through is not always easy.

If you have ever struggled to stay consistent with your hair care, you probably know this feeling well. You meant to moisturize. You meant to wash your hair on time. You meant to be more disciplined with your routines. Yet somewhere along the way, life got busy, you got tired, or your good intentions just didn’t translate into action.

This struggle isn’t unique to you. It’s part of being human. The encouragement in this passage is that the struggle between what we want to do and what we actually do is nothing new. It reminds us to be honest about our weakness, to lean on God’s grace, and to keep showing up instead of giving up.

Grace covers that gap in faith and on wash day (see what I did there?)

Romans 8:1–2 – You were not made flawed

“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

This verse can hit differently for Black women in particular.

Society has been pushing this narrative that natural hair is too much. “It’s unprofessional” or needs to be tamed. Romans 8:1 is a good verse to return to because it frees us from condemnation, in our spirits and how we feel about our physical bodies.

You should not feel bad about your natural hair because you were not made flawed. This includes your hair’s texture and how it grows.

Romans 8:28–32- You were made on purpose

This verse says, “In all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

While this verse is talking about our destiny, it can also be used to support that the hair that grows from your head is not an accident. Choosing to honor it is consistent with the broader truth that you were intentionally and purposefully made.

Romans 8 is Paul’s reminder that nothing about you is outside of God’s design.
